Textile Handicrafts

The textiles that we market are created using ancestral weaving techniques, which means each piece that is produced is steeped in Mapuche tradition - woven by hand on a homemade, wooden loom using only pure sheep wool that has also been spun by hand and dyed using only vegetation that naturally occurs in the ninth region of Chile.
The weavers that make these textiles agree to abide by the previously described ancestral techniques in order to produce textiles. They work together as members of the Indigenous Association Ñimi Kafe Pu Domo.
While maintaining these traditional ways, the weavers' association also seeks to create new, innovative textile product lines that respond to modern day tastes and aesthetics that appeal to international tastes. The weavers group and the Fundación Chol-Chol work together since the year 2000 under a business system that is known as "fair trade".
