In the traditional structure of the Mapuche family, the women do all the domestic tasks, including looking after the children, horticultural tasks and the care of small farm animals, such as hens. In addition, the women produce the textiles for the home and to sell, which contributes an income for the family. The craftswomen that work with the Chol-Chol Foundation come from the rural area of the 9th region and belong to indigenous Mapuche communities that are found in five towns in the region:
